Teaching procedures:

1 Warm-up

 (1) Ss sing “Last weekend”.

(2) Free talk

(3) Game: The more, the better

   S1: I watched TV.

   S2: I watched TV and read a book.

   S3: I watched TV, read a book and washed my clothes.

   S4: …

(4) Golden eyes

(5) Pair-work

   A: How was your weekend?

B: It was ______. (good, fine, OK, great)

A: What did you do?

B: I _________.

2 Presentation

(1) T shows some pictures and asks: What did he/she do?

   Ss: He/She ______.

(2) T shows three housekeepers and asks: What did she do?

   Ss: She cleaned the rooms/cooked the food/made the bed.

   T: They are housekeepers.

   T teaches “housekeeper”.

   T: Mrs Broom is a housekeeper, too. She works in the Holiday Hotel.

   T teaches “Holiday Hotel”.

   T: What do you think she did yesterday?

   Ss: She cleaned the rooms/cooked the food/made the bed.

(3) T: As we know, Wu Yifan and his family went to the countryside for their holiday. Did they have a good time? We don't know. So, let’s read the following passages to know if they enjoy their stay there.

   Ss read the article.

   T: What kind of article is it?

   Ss: It’s a comment letter.

   T: Where did they stay?

   S1: They stay at the Holiday Hotel.

   T: What did Wu Yifan think of the hotel? Good, average or bad?

   S2: Very bad.

   T: Why?

   S3: Because everything in the hotel was very old. They had to clean their room and fix a broken chair by themselves.

   T: Right. Anything else?

   S4: The lamp was so small that Wu Yifan’s mother couldn't read a book, and the food brought from the kitchen were cold and tasted bad.

   T: Yes, it was really bad. What else?

   S5: Wu Yifan wanted to watch TV, but it didn't work. And the people in Room 301 made loud noise, so that they didn't sleep well.

   T: Wow, it was really not a good time. Now, listen to the tape and repeat it.

(4) T shows the three pictures on P.19, and says:

Read the letter again quickly. Find the sentences that describe Pictures 1-3.

   Ss read and find the sentences.

(5) Ss circle all the verbs in the text and complete the

table.

(6) T: The following letter is from the housekeep Mrs Broom to the manager. Please have a quick look to get the main idea and complete it using the words or phrases from the comment letter.

   Ss read and finish the letter.
